New appointment strengthens Actemium UK’s shore power capability to support port decarbonisation

Andrew Lumley Appointment Shore Power

Actemium UK has appointed Andrew Lumley as Sector Manager for Onshore Power Supply (OPS), reinforcing its commitment to helping UK ports, terminals and maritime operators prepare for the transition to cleaner, more resilient operations.

Andrew Lumley Sector Manager OPS

As the sector responds to tightening emissions legislation, growing customer expectations and the increasing adoption of shore power across Europe, UK ports face important decisions about how and when to invest in electrical systems that enable lower emissions, long-term competitiveness and future growth.

Andrew’s appointment builds on Actemium UK’s wider energy transition strategy, bringing dedicated sector focus to customers exploring onshore power, electrical infrastructure upgrades and sustainable maritime operations.

An IET Incorporated Electrical Engineer, Andrew brings more than 23 years of engineering, shore powers systems, and project delivery experience from a distinguished career with the Royal Engineers. He has led multi-million-pound programmes spanning feasibility, business case development, design and the wider delivery stages needed to take complex infrastructure projects from concept through to operational readiness – giving him first-hand knowledge of the technical, operational and stakeholder challenges involved in successful OPS delivery.

Commenting on his appointment, Andrew said:

“Shore power is becoming a strategic investment for ports looking to improve air quality, reduce emissions and remain competitive as the maritime sector evolves.

Every port has different operational priorities, vessel profiles and electrical networks, so successful projects start with understanding each customer’s requirements rather than applying a standard solution.

By combining expertise in ICP, HV and LV electrical engineering, frequency conversion, automation, control, SCADA, cable management and on-going maintenance, Actemium UK can support each project with proven technology and practical delivery experience.

I look forward to working with UK ports, terminal operators and industry partners to deliver practical, reliable shore power solutions that are engineered, manufactured, assembled and factory tested in the UK”.

Andrew Hunter, Perimeter Director at Actemium UK, added:

“Ports are making investment decisions today that will shape their operations for decades to come. They need confidence that those investments will improve performance, advance sustainability and deliver lasting value.

Andrew Lumley brings the sector knowledge and delivery experience to help ports make those decisions with confidence. Combined with Actemium’s international shore power track record and established UK engineering capability, his appointment further strengthens our ability to plan and deliver the transition to shore power.

We are also actively developing models to finance, manage and operate OPS infrastructure, helping to address one of the key barriers to wider UK adoption while accelerating decarbonisation and delivering broader benefits for port communities”.

Since delivering its first Onshore Power Supply (OPS) project in 2010, the wider Actemium network has completed more than 30 installations across Europe and the Middle East, including ports such as Rotterdam, Hamburg, Barcelona, Gothenburg, Le Havre and Trelleborg. This international experience gives Actemium UK access to a proven track record that can be adapted to the specific technical and operational needs of the UK market.

Actemium UK delivers bespoke electrical engineering, data, automation and design solutions that help industrial and infrastructure customers improve operational performance, reduce risk, accelerate decarbonisation and prepare for the future. Working across sectors including energy, ports, water, transport, manufacturing and nuclear, Actemium UK supports customers throughout the asset lifecycle, from strategic advice and engineering through to installation, commissioning, maintenance and lifetime support.
