As part of the Sellafield Replacement Analytical Project (RAP) – a major programme to aimed at modernising laboratory facilities critical to nuclear decommissioning – Actemium has designed a custom-built modular switchroom. By shifting construction off-site and supplying a fully integrated, factory-tested solution, the business accelerates deployment, reduces on-site risk, increases programme certainty, and ensures seamless integration in a highly regulated and complex environment.

Actemium has supported the Electrical Distribution Network Upgrade Project (EDNUP) at Sellafield since 2018, working within the Infrastructure Strategic Alliance alongside Arup and Morgan Sindall. Providing SQEP electrical design and technical expertise, the business has modernised critical power infrastructure on site – improving resilience, reducing risk, and ensuring long-term security of supply.

For our final installment of Women in Engineering 2026, we caught up with Emily, an Apprentice Control Systems Engineer at Actemium Teesside. We spoke about how she got into engineering, what she’s been working on so far, and why she’d encourage more young women to consider the industry. From learning PCS 7 to growing confidence on live projects, Emily gives a great insight into what it’s like to start an engineering career through an apprenticeship.

Actemium was appointed by international civil engineering contractor Ward and Burke to deliver three control and automation packages for United Utilities (UU) as part of its £3 billion 'Better Rivers' programme. Across two West Yorkshire sites, the projects focused on Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) screens and detention tanks-critical assets that protect receiving watercourses during heavy rainfall events.

Actemium Design UK, part of Actemium UK, has been selected by United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) as its Strategic Design Partner (SDP) to support the development of High Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) capability at UKNNL’s Springfields site. This four-year partnership framework will provide engineering design support to help develop this critical UK capability.
