Actemium UK powers two ultra-rapid charging hubs in Scotland

Actemium IONITY Glasgow And Fort WIlliam Ultra Rapid Charging Installers

Actemium UK has delivered two new ultra-rapid EV charging hubs for IONITY in Glasgow and Fort William - including the installation of IONITY’s 700th ultra-rapid charging point in the UK and only the second public 350kW+ charging hub in the Scottish Highlands.

Together, the new hubs strengthen high-power charging coverage across Scotland, improving access for both urban EV drivers and motorists travelling longer distances along key tourism and transport routes.

The projects form part of the ongoing partnership between Actemium UK and IONITY, which to-date has delivered more than 160 high-power charging points across the United Kingdom since 2023. The collaboration continues to support the expansion of IONITY’s national network, with the operator now responsible for around one third of all public ultra-rapid (350kW+) charging points in the UK.

The new Glasgow hub, located at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Strathclyde, is Actemium UK’s first IONITY project in the city and represents only the third public charging hub in the area capable of delivering 350kW+. The fully operational site features six ultra-rapid Alpitronic HYC 400 chargers, capable of powering to 12 vehicles simultaneously.

The public ultra-rapid charging hub in Fort William is centrally located just off the A82 – one of Scotland’s key transport and tourism routes through the Highlands. The installation includes three Alpitronic HYC 400 chargers delivering 350kW+, powering six EV charging bays capable of supporting simultaneous vehicle charging.

Acting as principal contractor across both sites, Actemium UK delivered all civil engineering works, low voltage electrical installation, testing, commissioning and final handover, with the Fort William scheme also incorporating design.

Both projects were completed with clean, user-friendly layouts and minimal disruption to the surrounding area, which was particularly important at the Fort William site due to complex groundworks, including drilling through rock formations and installing 20-metre-deep earth electrodes.

Grant Murray, Rollout Manager at IONITY, said: “These two new Scottish hubs are important additions to IONITY’s expanding network in the UK, which has doubled the number of ultra-rapid chargers in less than a year.

“We value our partnership with Actemium UK which continues to deliver the high-quality, turnkey e-mobility infrastructure we need to expand access to ultra-rapid charging across the UK – strengthening driver confidence and supporting more sustainable long-distance travel.”

Ross Jones, Business Unit General Manager at Actemium E-Mobility, said:
