Actemium appointed Preferred Partner on long-term framework to decommission Sellafield nuclear site
Actemium, a leading UK provider of engineered electrical, automation and mechanical solutions, is pleased to announce that its nuclear specialist business, Actemium Design UK, has been appointed a Preferred Partner on the Design Supplier Network (DSN) for the Sellafield Project & Programme Partners (PPP) framework, supporting the decommissioning of one of the UK’s most complex nuclear sites.

Actemium Design UK has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work with Amentum – the Design and Engineering Partner – under Sellafield’s 20-year framework to deliver current and future major projects on the site. In addition to delivering single engineering discipline packages of work, the MOU also enables the secondment of Actemium-qualified nuclear technical experts into key PPP projects.
Actemium Design UK’s Preferred Partner status covers six sub-categories within Amentum’s network of design suppliers and reflects the business’s core engineering strengths:
- Process Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Piping & Pressure Equipment
- Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, and
- Electrical Building Services.
The nomination also underscores Actemium Design UK’s proven ability to meet PPP’s rigorous safety and quality standards.
The PPP framework promotes collaboration among participants, consistent quality, and accelerated delivery of major infrastructure projects. In addition, participants must work to maintain a ‘Knowingly Safe’ work environment and foster long-term value.
The appointment builds on Actemium Design UK’s strong history of successful PPP project delivery to date, including:
- Developing custom designs for glovebox control systems and panels for a new repackaging facility that will store nuclear inventory for the long term;
- Designing the interface joints and conducting stress analysis of the steel supports for tanks and vessels in the Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant (SIXEP) Continuity Plant (SCP); and
- Providing Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) resources for the Sellafield’s future analytical capability.
“This appointment confirms our partners’ confidence in our technical and innovative capabilities”, said Sean Mather, Actemium Design UK’s Project Manager for the PPP programme. “It recognises our engineering team’s depth of expertise, innovation, and focus on cost and timelines. We are honoured to have this clear, long-term appointment that will see us contributing to Sellafield’s major projects over the next decade and beyond.”
