Employee Spotlight: Liam Hall
Let us introduce you to Liam Hall, one of our talented junior control systems engineers. We recently sat down with Liam to learn more about his role and experience at Actemium Automation Nottingham.
Actemium Automation Nottingham is a specialist system integrator, offering expertise in automation software, hardware design, safety systems, panel building, and commissioning. While the Food and Beverage sector is their primary focus – working with some of the biggest names around – the business also support clients in other industries such as Toyota, Sellafield, and Kindeva.
Hi Liam, can we start by you finishing this sentence: My business is an incredible company to work for because…
It offers a dynamic and supportive environment where I can learn and grow every day. The graduate scheme – which I have just completed – gave me exposure to different parts of the business, helping me build a strong foundation in industrial automation. Actemium values innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving, making it an exciting place to develop my career.
Give us an example of a time where you have been supported to achieve your best in your career while with us?
In my first year, I had the chance to work at Actemium Automation Teesside, gaining experience with DCS systems – a completely different side of automation compared to Nottingham’s PLC focus.
Through the Actemium Graduate EAP Scheme, I attended multiple training programs and met many supportive colleagues across VINCI Energies UK. Towards the end of 2024, I visited several sites with senior engineers to implement code I had developed and assisted with commissioning. Their guidance was invaluable in building my confidence and skills in real-world automation projects.
Tell us about your incredible team and what it’s like to work with them?
My team is hard-working, knowledgeable, and fun to work with. It may sound cheesy but they are inspirational – daily. They welcomed me as a graduate with no hands-on experience and have supported my growth into a capable Junior Control Systems Engineer.
How does your work contribute to VINCI Energies’ digital and energy revolution?
As an integrator, we help customers navigate the energy transition by delivering sustainable automation solutions. We’ve diversified our services to include environmentally conscious practices and source from renewable suppliers. Through innovation and teamwork, we’re actively contributing to VINCI Energies’ vision of shaping the future through digital and energy revolutions.
In 50–100 words, why are you proud to do what you do?
I’m proud to be part of a team that brings complex automation projects to life. Seeing a project through every stage – from design to commissioning – is incredibly rewarding. We collaborate, support each other, and tackle challenges together, which makes every success feel shared. Learning from experienced engineers while contributing to meaningful projects gives me confidence and pride in what we do.
